Airport - Terminal 5
Heathrow airport is growing, the worlds busiest international airport
is set to get bigger! Amid much controversy the BAA has been given the
go ahead for the construction of a new terminal building.
Many have argued that the new terminal will have detrimental effects
on the environment most prominent of all the environmental effects may
be its effects on local wildlife and the increase in noise and air pollution
in the Heathrow area. The number of vehicles in the vicinity of Heathrow
Airport, travelling either to, from or around it, is expected to double
over the next ten years due to the construction of Terminal 5.
" Pro Terminal 5 " supporters argue that the construction of
the new terminal will increase the revenues generated through trade, export
and commercial flights without increasing the number of night flights.
This is mostly attributed to the development of newer larger aircraft,
which would most definitely fly from the new terminal at Heathrow.
Here's a few facts about the new terminal:
Road traffic is set to double as the terminal is completed.
Some argue that Terminal 5 will be detrimental to the environment.
It is expected to cost around £2.5 billion
It is not expected to be fully operational until 2015
Terminal 5 will help Heathrow maintain a stronghold on its position
as Europe's Primary hub
Terminal 5 at Heathrow Airport would increase revenue by approx. £
600 million a year.
